MAY 2024 - NEW ORLEANS, LOUISIANA:
CoatingsPro Magazine recently announced the winners of its 2024 Contractor Awards Program! Award winners were recognized in seven categories during the 2024 Association for Materials Protection and Performance (AMPP) Annual Conference + Expo, which took place in early March from New Orleans, La. Large posterboards showcasing each winner were visible and prominently placed inside AMPP's Exhibit Hall at the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center.
Kristin Leonard, chair of the AMPP Global Center Board of Directors and energy market director for North America at Sherwin-Williams Protective & Marine, announced the winners in a ceremony held in conjunction with the Expo Grand Opening. That ceremony can be viewed in its entirety on the CoatingsPro website and at the magazine's Facebook and YouTube pages. This year's CoatingsPro Editorial Advisory Group, along with a safety expert, participated in the judging process to determine which contractor submissions exemplified the best high-performance coatings projects.
Judging was conducted in two rounds, with each project and crew scored for safety, savings, and process. Additional points were given, as warranted, for going above and beyond. Three awards were presented in each of the Commercial Concrete, Commercial Roof, Industrial Concrete, and Industrial Steel categories, Alpine Painting & Sandblasting Contractors, "Interior Manufacturing Facility Painting at Firmenich Fragrance Company" while one winner was awarded in the Specialty Project, Work It Safe, and Contractor/Crew Most Valuable Player (MVP) categories.
And now, announcing CoatingsPro's 2024 Contractor Awards Program winners! "Commercial Concrete" Category
First place in Commercial Concrete went to Alpine Painting & Sandblasting Contractors for the "Interior Manufacturing Facility Painting at Firmenich Fragrance Company" project. When Firmenich, a global fragrance company, needed to recoat about 30,000 square feet (2,787.1 m3) of interior sections of its operational manufacturing facility, Alpine was called in. The crew worked on the walls, doors, equipment, columns, and concrete floors while the facility remained active, and they coordinated with Firmenich to ensure worker safety and to prevent disruptions. After a two-month period, the result was a four-color scheme using Sherwin-Williams' coatings based on the client's logo colors that, according to Alpine Painting, "significantly [improved] the space and [left] the client highly satisfied."
Second place in Commercial Concrete went to Bay to Bay Stone Restoration for the "Sea Air Towers Restoration Project." On this job, Bay to Bay determined that a multifaceted concrete restoration and waterproofing solution was needed to revitalize the Sea Air towers condominium space in Hollywood, Fla. As part of this restoration, the crew applied a Kemper waterproofing solution to various parts of the property. This multi-year project, which is currently ongoing, will conclude with 100,000 square feet (9,290.3 m2) of coated surfaces.
Third place in Commercial Concrete was awarded to Raymond's Painting Company for the "Torii Gate" project. Located in Mo'il'ili Triangle Park in Honolulu, Hawaii, the Torii Gate is a symbol of the shared connection between Honolulu and Hiroshima, Japan. This cultural artifact required a new coating system to protect and maintain its bright colors. Enter Raymond's Painting Company, who applied NeverFade Façade Restoration Coatings from APV Engineered Coatings to the approximately 2,000-square-foot (185.8 mª) concrete and metal structure.
